Anisa Kessery

Adv. Anisa Kessery is an acting part-time Tribunal member with 23 years’ experience in competition law. She holds B.Proc and LLB degrees from the University of Durban-Westville.

She started her career in competition law with the Competition Commission in 2000 and served approximately 10 years at the Commission. Ms Kessery served as Strategic Relations Coordinator (Legal and Internal) and Acting Company Secretary in the Commissioner’s Office from 2006 until 2011. She was also appointed, among others, as Senior Legal Counsel in 2014 and was promoted to Principal Legal Counsel, which role she fulfilled until 2017. Ms Kessery was promoted to Manager of Litigation shortly before she left the Commission to commence with her pupillage at the Johannesburg Bar.

She was admitted to the Johannesburg Society of Advocates in December 2018. During her career, Ms Kessery has appeared in the Tribunal, the Competition Appeal Court, the High Courts of South Africa and Namibia, the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa and the Constitutional Court.

In October 2022, she was appointed as Special Competition Law Counsel at the Tribunal. She was appointed as an acting part-time member of the Tribunal by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, effective 1 January 2024.
